James McCullough has been perfecting the sublime use of light to create beautiful wedding images for clients in the Western Pennsylvania and tri-state area since 1989. “It’s all about lighting”, he says. “Proper lighting is one of the key elements to a great image. As a professional, I am always looking for locations that will make the ordinary photograph an incredible wedding image”.
In nearly two decades of providing wedding photography in Pittsburgh, he has won multiple awards for outstanding photography in various areas of portraiture. These include wedding photography, high school senior portraits, children’s and family portraiture. Being a seasoned veteran in all aspects of his field allow him to efficiently capture images during the course of a busy wedding day.
Other areas of photography in which he has been exposed includes commercial, sports, and event photography. He credits these as important learning experiences as well. “I feel that the body of my work and the experience that I have gained in various disciplines of photography have allowed me to become extremely effective during a highly charged event, such as a wedding”
Every detail – from my husband’s military medals to the unique beading on my gown – was captured in the images. The variety of perspective, color, and candor made our album anything but mundane.
While some photographers choose to avoid the pressure and responsibility of capturing such an important event, Jim possesses just the right balance of calm and enthusiasm. “One of the greatest compliments that I receive comes after the wedding when a bride comments on how calming I was to her before the wedding”, adding “I know that part of my job is to be part of the wedding day, but to do so discreetly. Nobody wants a photographer that spends the day trying to garner attention or being a spectacle.”
Jim had a keen grasp of which special moments with family and guests would be important to us. My mother, too, was very impressed.
